Conductor

Gilly French was appointed music director in December 2015, succeeding Desmond Bazley.

Gilly is conductor of the Westminster-based chamber choir Cantandum, renowned for its outstanding vocal quality and interesting programming, and singer-director of the vocal consort Floreat, which specialises in Renaissance music. She is also founder and artistic director of Bampton Classical Opera, a professional company with a national reputation for accessible productions of rarely-heard 18th-century opera. On the lighter side she was for many years conductor of Imperial Winds, a concert band based at Imperial College, and has also worked with the Hertfordshire Concert Band.

As a singer she is an occasional recitalist and oratorio soloist as well as a member of two a capella ensembles.
